In Begur, the cuisine reflects the richness of an area open to the Mediterranean, from which comes all manner of fish and seafood, and a [tradition of farming] which produces magnificent and varied fruit and vegetables as well as meat of the highest quality. A good number of restaurants offering classical or modern cuisine; the guarantee of a marvellous traditional, sea-based cuisine that is still kept up in many houses; the rice dishes; the "sea and mountain" dishes and the "platillos"; the range and quality of seasonal products that the town itself and the region produces, have all contributed to the international fame of Empordà cuisine.

Both in the town of Begur itself as well as on its beaches and coves, you can find a huge variety of restaurants offering every type of cuisine.

Amongst Begur’s many attractions, we should make special mention of the natural beauty of its rocky coastline and seascape, home to the peix de roca, or rock fish, considered to be one of the tastiest and best quality fish on the market. It stands to reason then that the most traditional ingredient of Begur cuisine is, of course, the rock fish, and it is around this fish that the annual, spring Gastronomic Campaign is based. During this period, participating restaurants give diners the option to taste a special menu made up solely of dishes based around the rock fish, drawing on an enormous variety of recipes and offering a wide range of prices.
